By entering this contest, participants agree to abide by and be bound by these official rules.
Who can enter?
• Photographers of all ages and levels of expertise.
• Photographers must be residents of Oregon or Washington state.
• Current employees of the East Oregonian Publishing Company and their immediate families are not eligible.
Contest deadline
• Deadline to enter is 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011. No late entries will be accepted.
What photographs are eligible?
• All subjects are welcome. There is no theme.
• Print entries: Prints may be color or black-and-white, unframed, no larger than 8"x10". Each entry must have the completed entry form (photocopies are OK) attached to the back of the photograph.
• Digital entries: Digital photographs may be color or black-and-white, JPEG format, a maximum of 5MB in size and at least 5"x7" in image size. Official entry form can be found at www.coastweekend.com
• Photos may be enhanced only for color correction, lightening or darkening the photograph, or removal of red-eye. All other altered photographs will be considered artistically enhanced.
Other contest rules
• There is no purchase necessary and no entry fee required.
• Each entry must include the entrant's name, home address, age, a description of the photograph, daytime telephone number and Photographer's signature. Each entry must disclose if the photograph has been artistically enhanced.
• Limit of five entries per person and e-mail address.
• Entries can be made online at www.coastweekend.com, be emailed to contest@dailyastorian.com, dropped off at 949 Exchange Street in Astoria or can be mailed to: The Daily Astorian, Coast Weekend Photo Contest, PO Box 210, Astoria, OR 97103.
• All photographs entered may be used in future publications by the East Oregonian Publishing Company.
• Winners agree to disclosure of their names, hometown, and likeness for publicity purposes without compensation.
• Contestants retain copyright to their own work and agree that by entering, they are the owner of the work and are not submitting the work of others. Contestants, you agree that East Oregonian Publishing Company may publish your photo(s) for local promotion of the contest and its winners, to identify you as the image's creator, and for use in any of the East Oregonian Publishing Company's publications, websites or promotional materials.
• All decisions of the judges are final. The East Oregonian Publishing Company reserves the right to refuse any entries.
• All entries will be handled with the best possible care. Photographers are responsible for insuring their own work, if they so desire.
Prizes
• Gift certificates will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners, plus a "People's Choice" winner voted on by Web site visitors. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
When can prints be picked up?
• Printed entries will be available for pick up after Friday, Jan. 6, 2012.
Will winners be announced?
• Yes. Winning photographs will be published in Coast Weekend Thursday, January 5, 2012.
• All photographs will be posted online at www.coastweekend.com
People's Choice voting
• Voting for the People's Choice will be from 12:01 a.m. Dec. 22 through 11:59 p.m. Dec. 28. Only one vote accepted per user.
FAQs
• What does artistically enhanced mean? Photographs that have been enhanced for purposes other than color correction, lightening or darkening of the photograph or removal of red-eye.
• Digital photographs may be color or black-and-white, JPEG format and a maximum of 5 MB in size and at least 5"x7" in image size.
• A high-quality scan of your photograph can be submitted electronically by following the rules for digital photographs.
• Can photographs be cropped? Yes.
• What if my digital photograph is not at least 5 x 7 inches? Please submit your photograph with this notation. If we need you to resubmit your photograph, we will contact you.
• What if my digital photograph is larger than 5 MB, but not at least 5x7 inches? Please reduce the size of your photograph so that it is not larger than 5 MB and submit the photograph. If we need you to resubmit your photograph, we will contact you.
• You may submit a black-and-white photo as color and vice versa, but this must be noted on the entry form.
